Cody Gilbert was hired as the Athletic Director and Head Football Coach at Sabine High School in the spring of 2022. During this time, Coach Gilbert has worked alongside administration to grow all athletic programs, and improve athletic facilities at Sabine. Girls and Boys High School programs have won a total of six district championships including baseball, boys cross country, boys track, girls track, and boys basketball. The Sabine powerlifting program is considered one of the best in Texas winning 2 out of the last three boys regional championships. In Football the Cardinals have set new offensive school records including scoring 38 points per game in 2023, and have defeated three top 25 teams in Gilbert's three seasons. 

Coach Gilbert went to Azle High School in the spring of 2017. There Coach Gilbert served as the programs Defensive Coordinator and Recruiting Coordinator until leaving in the spring of 2022 for Sabine. The Hornets set school records going 39-7 from 2018-2021, and won three district championships, and three bi district championships. Defensively the Hornets set a new mark for tackles for loss, sacks and interceptions.

Prior to coming back to Azle, Coach Gilbert was the Defensive Coordinator at Howard Payne University in Brownwood, Texas. Howard Payne, a NCAA Division III institution plays in the American Southwest Conference. In one season at HPU, Gilbert oversaw the reconstruction of the Yellow Jacket defense that improved in total defense, rushing defense, and turnovers.

At Azle the first time, Gilbert was the Special Teams Coordinator and Outside Linebackers Coach. Gilbert, also was their strength and conditioning coach and off season coordinator. There he helped lead Azle to a 2014 District Championship with an 11-2 overall record. It would be the most wins for the program in the school's history.


Before Azle, he was the Defensive Coordinator and strength and conditioning coach at Archer City high school in Archer City, Texas.


While at Howard Payne as a student from 2009-2012, he lettered one season and would go on to work as a student assistant with the defensive line and defensive backs. He also served as the assistant video coordinator for HPU.


Gilbert continued his education after Howard Payne completing a Masters of Education in Sports Administration from East Central University in Ada, Oklahoma in August of 2014.

A graduate of Santo high school in Santo, Texas, Cody is married to Meagan, and they have 1 son, John Allen.
